CLUB GEWALT x OPERA
OPERA = DEAD
OPERA is dead. Is OPERA dead? Club Gewalt wonders if OPERA is dead. CLUB GEWALT puts OPERA up for sale. Club Gewalt buries OPERA. Club Gewalt does OPERA a service. CLUB GEWALT appropriates OPERA. Club Gewalt kills OPERA. Club Gewalt brings OPERA back to life.
Opera is nothing more than recreation for the baby boomer, and so it’s expiry date has long been exceeded. Time to put the dried-up genre up for sale and say farewell with performance, dancing and beer.
In the Club Gewalt-opera house the bar is always open en the stage becomes a rowdy marketplace, where Club Gewalt offers the audience performances for 1 euro: aria’s by Puccini, dialogues between Wagner and Caccini, show and tells on Strauss’ Salome, an overture by Philip Glass. Everything’s got to go. ‘Cause: for something to have value, it must end.
